The Rosehill Psychiatric Unit at Essendon Private Hospital is a modern, purpose-built facility with 10 private rooms. Given its relatively small size and the multi-disciplinarity of the treatment team, we are able to offer a highly personalised approach to patient care and tailor services to each patient's identified needs, aims and objectives.
Patients are admitted to The Rosehill Unit under the care of their treating psychiatrist.
It is a requirement that patients are 'voluntary' and able to guarantee their personal safety. Our patients generally include those with an acute exacerbation of symptoms of an anxiety related illness, an affective disorder, or a psychotic illness who require 24-hour care. Children, adolescents and patients with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorders or drug or alcohol dependence are generally excluded.
The in-patient Therapeutic Program combines Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), with psycho-education and symptom management. It also provides patients with the experience of normalising, re-connecting and communicating with others about mental illness. It is comprised of:
- group and individual psychotherapy
- art and diversional sessions
- occupational therapy
- education about individually prescribed pharmacotherapy

The Therapeutic Program, which participants would not exceed 12, is delivered by a Clinical Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist, and a number of mental health nurses with qualifications and interests in different areas including art therapy, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation, and so on.
In order to guarantee a continuity of care and successful recovery post discharge, we also offer several outpatient services including a relapse prevention group, a bipolar disorder support group and a carers support group as well as individual follow-up sessions with an experienced mental health nurse. |
