Admission FAQs

How do I get a referral from my GP?

Discuss your concerns with your GP and inform them you would like to visit our facility. Your GP can simply phone or fax the hospital requesting an admission for you. We will then engage a Psychiatrist for you if you do not already have your own.

How long do patients stay?

The length of a stay will vary depending on the condition of the individual. The estimated length of stay is discussed with the treating doctor during your admission. This is determined on a case by case basis.

What do I need to bring with me for my stay?

  • You will need to bring along your private hospital insurance membership contribution book or card, Department of Veteran Affairs, Traffic Accident Corporation or Work Cover details if or where applicable
  • Medicare Card
  • Any current medication and prescriptions in their original packaging
  • Night attire e.g. dressing gown, pajamas, slippers
  • Neat and tidy clothing and footwear. National costume and religious requirements (e.g. clerical collar) are acceptable
  • Personal toiletries
  • Laptops, iPads and mobile phones can only be brought into the hospital if approved for use by your treating doctor. Please note: webcams or inbuilt cameras are NOT permissible for use in public areas in the presence of employees and other patients due to the hospital’s privacy and confidentiality policies

What happens on the day of discharge?

On the day of discharge, we ask that your room is to be vacated by 10:00 am. If this is not possible, alternative arrangements can be made with the nursing team prior to the day.

Who can I speak to regarding hospital complaints/compliments/suggestions?

All complaints will be dealt with in a strictly confidential manner, and as soon as possible. Outcomes will be relayed back to the person concerned either verbally or in writing (as desired). All persons raising concerns or lodging complaints will not be jeopardised in any way in relation to their care and treatment during their stay.

If need be, please send all complaints in writing to the Complaints Officer at Essendon Private Clinic 35 Rosehill Road Essendon West VIC 3040.

Alternatively, you may fill out our feedback form. Make sure to include the staff/service concerned and it will be passed on to the relevant staff/service.

Please note: we are unable to investigate anonymous complaints due to a lack of relevant information.

Dietary requirements

If you have any food allergies, intolerances, or special diet based on religious grounds, please discuss this with your admitting nurse or treating doctor. We can then ensure there is an option available for you.

Patient Fees

Understanding the Cost of Private

Mental Health Treatment

At Essendon Private Clinic, we are committed to providing high-quality, personalised mental health care in a private, supportive environment. We understand that transparency around patient fees is essential when planning your treatment.

This page outlines important information about the cost of inpatient mental health care, day programs, and TMS therapy, including what may be covered by private health insurance and what out-of-pocket costs may apply.

Private Health Insurance Coverage

Essendon Private Clinic has provider agreements with all major Health Funds who will cover your treatment costs, depending on your level of cover. Once we have received your referral, we can provide you with an estimate of any out of pocket expenses you may be responsible for (e.g. excess, co-payments). All out of pocket expenses must be paid prior to your discharge.

A holding deposit may be required on admission to cover any added expenses such as pharmacy or phone calls raised during hospitalisation.

Workcover / Worksafe / Third Party Insurance

If your admission is as a result of a Workcover / Worksafe, or Third Party, the hospital requires prior written approval for your admission from the relevant insurance company. Your admission cannot be confirmed or proceed until this approval is received.

A holding deposit may be required upon admission to cover any added expenses such as pharmacy or phone calls raised during hospitalisation.
