What Is repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy?

Repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-drug treatment for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and more.

Also referred to as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), this therapy uses gentle electromagnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in parts of the brain involved in emotional regulation.

rTMS encourages healthier patterns of brain activity, helping to lift low mood, reduce anxiety, and improve motivation. It’s a non-invasive therapy, which means there’s no surgery, no needles, and no medication involved. Most people stay awake and comfortable throughout each session and return to their normal routine right afterward.

rTMS is a widely used treatment option for those struggling with treatment-resistant depression, and it’s increasingly being used for other mental health conditions like anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and even addiction in some cases. For many, it offers great results with fewer side effects compared to antidepressant medications.

rTMS can be used with other mental health therapies

rTMS brain stimulation therapies can be combined with psychotherapy and medication management for a more comprehensive treatment approach. Many patients find rTMS treatment for depression helps them feel better without side effects like weight gain, fatigue, or emotional numbness. rTMS has fewer side effects than antidepressant medications, and for many people, it brings great results and improves quality of life.

It’s especially effective for:

Treatment-resistant depression

Anxiety not responding to medication

Bipolar depression

Chronic depression

OCD (Australia-approved protocols)

PTSD

Sit back, relax, and let your brain rewire itself

How Does It Work?

Gentle brain stimulation.

Powerful mood transformation.

rTMS therapy targets specific areas of the brain responsible for emotional balance. These areas are gently stimulated with electromagnetic pulses through a device called a coil, which is positioned on the scalp.

The pulses stimulate nerve cells, helping to reset the brain’s activity levels in a more balanced, healthy way. Over time, this supports the development of more stable mood patterns and improved mental health.

Sessions typically last 20 to 60 minutes, and may occur once or multiple times per day depending on your treatment plan. This plan is developed in consultation with your psychiatrist.

Treatment takes place while you sit comfortably in a reclining chair, and you’re welcome to relax, listen to music, or meditate during the session.

rTMS Therapy for Mental Health

Modern therapy that rewires the brain and restores hope

rTMS is transforming mental health care in Australia. Whether you're struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, or addiction, rTMS offers a science-backed path forward — without the need for daily medication.

As a non-drug treatment for depression, rTMS has minimal side effects, such as mild scalp discomfort, headache, or light-headedness. In rare cases, seizures can occur — but these are very uncommon and carefully monitored.

Most side effects go away once treatment ends.
